This large and impressive cylindrical calculator dates to between 1915-1920 and was made by the firm of Daemon Schmid in Zurich Switzerland who rebranded themselves ‘LOGA’ around the same time. The drum itself measures 59cm long x 17cm diameter so the calculator makes for an imposing display piece.
As I believe the largest cylindrical calculator Schmid offered (24 metres) it was very much intended for professional accounting and bureaucratic use and reputedly sold well across Europe. A few interesting original photos of these calculators in use can be viewed on the International Slide Rule Museum website (click name for link).
This example is offered in nice cleaned condition. The original protective cover had got quite damaged so has had a bunch of restoration done including new sides, and the unusual underneath roller chart (in German) has been partly double backed where it had grown frail. One Bakelite knob also has some damage.
Since these larger drum calculators are now desirable survivors, it is good that everything is still present.
