This is a nice clean example of the small GEC0PHONE radio No 1 dating to 1923 and made by the General Electric Company in the UK. Using a cats whisker and crystal these sets predate tubes and were the first affordable radio experience for many costing £5 10 shillings when new. Between 1922-24 the new BBC enforced and relied on a tax levy on all UK radio sets and equipment which is why this one is sub-branded the BBC 102 to show the dues had been recognised.
