This historically fascinating pack was distributed by RCA to their American sales-force during the later 1950s to help them promote the new and exciting medium of Colour Television. It is a rare survivor and tells of an oft-forgotten element about the very early rise of colour TV.
Although colour television as a technical triumph had emerged by the mid 1950s, its commercial introduction was relatively slow. This salesman’s pack was therefore put together to help boost RCA’s sales in this field. One of the main problems was with a lack of colour shows on TV at the time, it was sometimes pot luck if the potential customer walked into the TV showroom during a live colour transmission. Therefore a big element of RCA’s solution was to offer short free loans (inc home installation) to allow the magic of colour television sell itself!
This pack is very almost complete and includes two 33rpm records as well as a host of literature to help the seller towards a successful sale. All that appears missing is possibly a set of slides and a short movie reel to show to customer (when live TV could not be viewed probably). Apart from the two records which have warped slightly from storage in the box, the rest appears in good clean condition. The records can be flattened out quite easily.
