The Baby Fox No.1 Typewriter was released by The Fox Typewriter Company of Grand Rapids USA in 1917. With an unusual folding carriage mechanism it was a very early portable type typewriter and began to sell well in the US and UK. It was designed by Henry Nordmark.
Sadly for Fox although the design was indeed clever, in 1919 Smith Corona began to sue the company claiming patent infringements from its own popular folding Portable typewriter. The case was heard in 1920 and Smith Corona ultimately won leading to the collapse of the Fox Typewriter Company. Because the Fox No 1 & 2 were never on the market for too long they are rare and desirable machines today. If you are interested in the history of these typewriters there is good information here.
Please see images as this example is offered in original as-found unrestored condition and comes with its black vinyl case. This is a nice early example bearing the serial number 596.
