The HP-9830a is an interesting milestone machine in computer and calculator history. Introduced in 1972 it was the most powerful of the HP 9800 series of programmable calculators but because it ran BASIC and had other features such as a hard disk drive and terminal emulator it could also have been technically called a computer. Tech historians today do view it as a very early desktop but at the time, worried that naming it anything other than a calculator may alienate their loyal customer base, the 9830a was never given the computer tag by HP. This machine is offered as found condition and a home made label on the top self dates it to 1974. Visually apart from a small crack to the side of the plastic casing (see pic) it is clean both inside and out. This does not currently turn on so will need the boards looking at carefully.
It is a UK retailed machine so runs off of 240v supply.This is a great item for a collector or for public display.
