Description

The TR-63 radio was an important machine for Sony and the young transistor radio industry. In 1957 it was the smallest radio on offer and the first to be genuinely coined ‘pocket radio’ (the story of Sony’s salesmen being given larger pockets than usual to show it off has now become an urban legend). The TR-63 sold well around the world with reputedly 114,536 examples made in total.  Several design features of this radio were quickly taken up and copied by other companies and the TR-63 is now widely considered an important milestone item for radio collectors.

This example is in the most desirable colour combination of yellow and red and has been well cared for over the years. It is free from chips and cracks (only one tiny stress mark beside the headphone socket and the corner). The reverse has a slightly darker patch to the plastic from age but may come out with careful polishing. Internally it appears untouched and still picks up one or two AM channels at medium volume. It comes with its original Sony branded leather carrying case which is in good condition and still soft. Feel free to contact us if you would like to hear this radio working.
