‘Standing Waves’ Physics Demonstration Mechanical Lantern Slide c.1880s

This unusual mechanical magic lantern slide dates to around the 1880s and was made by Cox of London. It depicts the principle of Standing Waves as first observed by Michael Faraday in 1831 and would have been used as part of a Physics demonstration. The understanding of standing waves have had many real life applications including in music, microwaves and radio.

It is offered in good original condition and the metal corkscrew has been repaired with solder at some point in the past.
