This TYS 5-3000 air cooled transmitting tube by Mullard was introduced in 1949 and has the accolade of being one of the largest silica valves produced. Created from Silica rather than glass the benefit was that the walls could be made closer to the red hot plate (as Silica has a higher meting temperature than glass). These giant tubes were very expensive to create and were made for high powered transmitters as well as industrial use. It look to date from the 1950s.
Measuring an impressive 54cm long (without the wire) this is perfect for display. This example is offered as found and untested. The tube itself looks pretty intact though it does seem to have something rattling inside I can’t see. The cloth handle on the case has detached on one side. The model number can be seen moulded from the silica.
Due to the size and fragility this would need to be very carefully packaged for shipping. Therefore postage is not included in the price and collection is highly recommended. Please contact first to discuss shipping.
