James Watt first patented his ground breaking Steam-Engine in 1766 and continued to refine and improve the design for the remainder of his life. This nice early engraving of ‘Watt’s Patent Steam Engine According to the Latest Improvements’ was done by C Cooke for the ‘New Encyclopedia’ which was published in 1795. Interestingly although it says it includes the latest improvements, it doesn’t seem to include his influential sun and planet gearing of 1781.
This original book plate is offered in fair condition with some age related foxing and has been mounted on grey card ready for ready for framing. The mount measures: 48cm high x 34 cm wide.
