This desirable colourful phone dates from 1996 and was produced by Motorola as part of their StarTAC range. Offered in its original box with accessories.
Though the initial high price of mobile phones meant they were targeted at the affluent business professional during the 1980s and early 90s, by the mid 1990s the phone companies realised they were missing out on the potentially lucrative youth market. A few bold phones like this StarTAC emerged to try to tap into that fashion conscious market, and while none were massively successful at the time, their design led principles began a shift in the way later phones would be understood and branded.
Although the standard Star TAC (offered in boring black!) would be an extremely good seller for Motorola, this Rainbow version was always going to be a more niche phone. Its boldness and scarcity has made it a popular and desirable phone for collectors.
The batteries no longer hold any charge so the phone will not turn on. The original charger has a European 2 pin plug, therefore this item is sold for decorative use only.
