Description

This extremely eye-catching and unusual French wallpaper frieze depicts a group of early French airships and planes in flight against a Paris skyline. Although unlabelled, the great thing is the artist has reproduced actual airships and a plane from the time from classic photographs that would have been available through newspapers. This quite accurately dates the frieze to c1910/11 and the images appear to include:

‘14 Bis’ airplane of Santos Dumont c1906; ‘Patrie’ dirigible c1905; Dirigible of M.Henry Deutsch c1910; two other Dirigibles yet identified.

Since most of these airships were created for racing the frieze may be depicting a fictitious air race across France. This rare piece is from the exciting very early days of flight and the first few years of air races. Being unusual I’m sure this wallpaper was only ever produced in very small quantity. The main image group repeats three times in this roll.

This measures approximately : 4.5m long x 49.5cm high

Please see images for condition as it is offered as found with some light age related marks and wear. Overall it is in very good condition considering. Naturally this will be posted rolled.
