The Marconiphone V2a radio receiver of 1923 was an early and high quality device. At over £11 to purchase new these were far more expensive than most contemporary crystal and valve radios and the quality reflected this. A battery in the base made them truly portable and unlike later radios which incorporated a simple tuning dial, this was tuned using the accompanying wave length plates and regenerator units.
This example is offered in very nice working condition and comes with leads, two regenerator units (Type RB for 245-530 metres & Type A for 1300-2100 metres) and three wavelength plates (300-390m, 390-530m & 1300-1700m). The mahogany case is in lovely condition and the inside and outside decals are all still crisp.
When we tested this device it picked up Radio 4 well on headphones but couldn’t pick up signals off the other plates probably due to a lack of stations available on those wave lengths. It comes with a pair of working original Marconi Osram DER D2250 valves that also retain their own BBC approved stamp. We rewound the primary coil as it was open-circuit and is now working fine. The Type RB regenerator sadly has damage to the case and looks like the Bakelite probably got hot from the valve and bowed/cracked.
