This is a rare 1st edition copy of Alan Turing’s seminal article on Artificial Intelligence. Entitled ‘Computing Machinery & Intelligence’ it was featured in ‘Mind: A Quarterly Review of Psychology & Philosophy’ (October 1950). The article aimed to answer the question- can machines think? Turing’s approach was to suggest his now infamous ‘imitation game’.
Although ‘Mind’ was well respected among academics at the time, as a niche periodical it was only ever printed in small quantities with not very many surviving to this day. This article remains one of Turing’s most famous and a foundational work in the field of AI. Prices for this 1st edition of his article have understandably been rising quickly as both AI and Turing’s recognition grow.
This copy is offered in very good clean condition with no foxing, fading, annotations or marks. The thin grey paper cover has a little bit of bumping and wear to the edges and along the outer spine as always occurs and there is a small tear on the back, but is a very good clean and tight example overall.
