This was something I stumbled across and is nice to find with its original box and paperwork. Although quite a late example (this one is dated 1982) test cards such as this were a vital part of broadcasting history. They were used to calibrate the cameras and receivers and as such were also displayed on the screen between live transmissions. Those old enough to remember analogue TV will have fond memories of different famous test cards they would see on the screen. For more info the Wikipedia info on test cards is linked here.
This TC60 example was made by DCS Laboratories in Canada and states it was suitable for the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), IBA (International Broadcasting Corporation) & ITCA (Independent Television Companies Association). The card itself is printed on clear acetate and then placed between two panes of glass.
The hand-written note on the front stating that it took 2 years to source and £450 to buy reminds us how vital these things were back in the day!
