Back in 1996 the ‘In2It’ from Philips was due to be a small personal communicator aimed specifically at the young female market. Indeed with so many electronic gadgets at the time aimed at boys this was a great idea in theory.
Despite extensive research and the involvement of plenty of girls in the whole design process, in the end the project was sadly cancelled before release. Multiple reasons are cited for this cancellation including the failure of the somewhat similar ‘Casio Loopy’ in Japan, unfavourable market conditions, poor results for Philip’s other newly released product the CD-i, and a less than excited response from the gaming community. In the end it is reported that only several hundred units were made for evaluation and internal use making it a rare and fascinating survivor today.
