Aaron Marcus ‘Noise Barrier’ Silkscreen Print 1974 (Artists Proof)

This large silk screen print is by the American artist Aaron Marcus and is dated 1974. It is titled ‘Noise barrier’ and is rarer than most examples found by him as it is the original artist’s proof copy (A/P). It has been printed onto Arches paper and interestingly has some pencil marks on the image that resemble the squiggles of the print. Since this was the artist’s working copy it is probable that they were added by Marcus.

Aaron Marcus was an early and influential pioneer in Computer art and computer graphics. His images from this period were created from programs he would write himself in Fortran and APL, and he described them as ‘Poem Drawings’. In this image there is a great tension between the disorder and chaos of the squiggles and the crisp order of the square it fits into.

The image measures 56cm x 39 cm.  The sheet measures 76cm x 55cm.

Please see images but it is offered in good condition overall. There are a few scuffs and pencil marks on the image and some light marks in the margins. There is also slight toning at the sheet edge and the reverse has stronger toning as seen, Once framed these should not show up. It will be sent rolled.
