The Zenith Space Commander 200 of 1956 was the first sonic remote control, the second wireless remote, the first without leads or batteries and as such was a milestone in the development of TV controllers. Designed by Robert Adler, the principles used here would continue in remotes for nearly decades after. As far as I’m aware the 200 and 400 series Space Command controllers came out at the same time (with the only difference being 2 buttons on the 200 and 4 on the 400).
This controller is offered in good original condition and even comes with its original box (which is a little bit tatty). Zenith were keen to get these controllers to market as quickly as possible so the ‘patent applied for’ reference on the device is a good indicator that this is an early example. Although there are many later model Zenith Space Command remote controllers on the market place, these very first ones are naturally rare and even more so with the box (first boxed one I’ve come across anyway).
Approx dimensions of box: 10.5 x 9 x 3.5cm.
